New poster released: The Decemberists

Hand screenprinted 3-color poster for The Decemberists show on 8/14/09 at The Byham Theater in Pittsburgh, PA

No surprise, I love, love The Decemberists, they work the lovely and dark into a thing of beauty and complexity so well, so deftly. We’re really pleased and excited to be working with them once again for this poster.

This poster is my all hand screenprinted ode to The Decemberists “The Rake Song”. It’s a 3-color print with bright & shiny metallic gold, midnight black and rusty pink inks. Edition of just 110. Size: 16w x 22h inches. Paper: acid-free & archival Cougar 100 lb White, cover weight. Available on my website here.

Their show in Pittsburgh last night was fantastic, exceeding even the rumors we’d heard and expectations set up from tales of previous nights’ shows on tour. Playing “The Hazards of Love” from start to brutal finish, kicking much ass with a killer rendition of Heart’s “Crazy”, and giving a magical reenactment of “The Battle Of Fort Pitt” by The Decemberists Family Players, we were spellbound. And now I’m even further in love. Thank you for the magic. And thanks again for signing a copy of your poster for us too!

Heartbreakers. In a great way. That’s what Jason Molina’s band,  Magnolia Electric Co. are, and they’re amazing. I’m pleased as puch to be a part of the summer 2009 Magnolia Electric Co. tour series of posters, (a different limited edition, hand screenprinted poster was produced by artists from all over the country, one poster for each night of the tour) and had such a fun time at the show last night at The Andy Warhol Museum seeing MEC and the super cool Sand Diego band, The Donkeys. Thanks so much again!

Sometimes something beautiful goes wrong, in a beautiful way. KABOOM! This is my all hand screenprinted poster for the heartbreakingly lovely Magnolia Electric Co. It’s a 3-color, print with heart red, alarm-orange and midnight black inks. The orange ink is swirled into the red throughout the bombs and the text so that each print is unique and different. (Just like you Butterfly.) Edition of just 85, so they’ll go quick. Size: 16w x 22h inches. Paper: acid-free & archival Cougar 100 lb White, cover weight.

* This poster is now available on my website here, and also on tour with Magnolia Electric Co. this summer! *

Arts & Crap Fair @ Univ. Of Pittsburgh

Yeah, that’s right. You heard me!

Schenley Quad on Pitts campus, home of the Art & Crap Fair.

Schenley Quad on Pitt's campus, home of the Arts & Crap Fair.

Big ol’ 1-dayer craft fair on Friday, April 17th on The University of Pittsburgh’s campus (my alma mater) called the Arts & Crap Fair. The Fair is in it’s 3rd year and promises to be the biggest one yet.

There will be a great mix of vendors from students to small local businesses selling things from crafts , vintage clothes, baked yummies like cupcakes and vegan rolls to handmade art work. I’ll be there with art prints, posters, tshirts, test prints and more, so stop by on your way to the Pitt bookstore, lunch, or the Student Union to check it all out and say hello! You didn’t really want to be studying anyway, right?

Rumor has it, WPTS will be kicking out the jams too. The Arts & Crap Fair is sponsored by The Original, a free arts & culture magazine fresh out of Pittsburgh since 2006.

The details: The Arts & Crap Fair will be in the Schenley Quad from 12pm – 5pm Friday, April 17, 2009

Be there or be square!

Je ne suis pas Morrissey

So close, so handsome.

So close, so far away.

Because there is only one Morrissey. And, after 24 years, Pittsburgh finally gets their man at The Carnegie Music Hall.

What a great send off for SXSW & Flatstock. Thank you for a lovely show & a Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

The Pittsburgh Steelers Win Sixth Record Breaking Superbowl

The Pittsburgh Steelers Win Sixth Record Breaking Superbowl

YAY!!!!!!!

Superbowl 43! Err, XLIII

Yup. Chicks dig the Superbowl too.

Especially when you’re a chick in Pittsburgh. It’s the water here. No offense, Cardinals, but we really want this one. We need to bring home the Six Pack. Blitz for the Six. Win one for the Other Thumb. We win & we  set the standing NFL record for the winningest team in history.

For a town that was on the brink of collapse just a few decades ago, The Pittsburgh Steelers are a symbol of endurance and perseverance. Triumph over  adversity and plain all around awesome to have in the city. In this city there is no room for pretense or high-falutin’ anything. Even without the steel mills that built not only this city, but much of the country, this town is nothing but honest and practical. There is something super cool about Pittsburgh that way and it’s a part of the Steelers as a team too. Owned by the Rooney family since 1933, there is no need for showboating or cheerleaders for the team. Just straight, old-fashioned, tough and technically thrilling football.

Whether or not that is a chunk of what draws people from every possible demographic and cross-demographic to be crazy insane hardcore Steeler fans? I dunno. All I do know is that from the oldest Grandmas to the tiniest little emo-boys, there’s gonna be a lot of screaming at TVs tonight and a lot of hoarse, blown out voices tomorrow. Chicks & dudes all.

GO STEELERS!

The Pittsburgh Polka

The Pop Rocks rockin’ it

And, because he is my favorite player to watch, ever Hines Ward two way. Hightlights and the famous one shoe touchdown catch.  Ninja!

Snow Day!

Jett running in the snow.

Jett running in the snow.

Well, ok. Just about every day this week has been a snow, ice, slush, sleet day, in all truth. But today was that perfect and beautiful light & fluffy-wuffy lofting snow day. And, although I shoveled snow for at least the 9th time this week at the time of writing this, (including helping out some neighbors dig out), it was a lovely & welcome snow day today.

Our dog Jett, who usually hates all things cold weather related, was uncharacteristically enthusiastic and puppy-like in the snow. He pranced and pounced while I shoveled and took photographs of the neighborhood in the snow. Until he got too cold and hid under a giant juniper bush.

Pitbulls, are they really so tough?

Jettsons icy whiskers, cold & hiding.

Thank you Handmade Arcade!

Handmade Arcade at the Hunt Armory  Handmade Arcade at the Hunt Armory

That thanks goes for the organizers AND the awesome attendees. We had the BEST time all weekend. The Handmade Arcade (with 8,000+ people attending, it’s Pittsburgh’s largest indie/DIY craft show) just seems to get better every year. Everyone that we got to talk with was so nice and open; lots of fun conversations. What can I say? I love to talk shop. And happily, as it turns out, people love to talk craft and art too.

Plus, the new location was the BOMB. No foolin’! Handmade Arcade moved to the Hunt Armory, one of the largest National Guard Armory buildings around. It’s a really cool space with tons of natural light, room for crowds and vendors to breathe and of course, heavy vehicles. Turned out to be a very interesting mix.

AIR October Benefit Parrrtaaay!

AIR. It’s a good thing right? We all need it to breathe. But, like many printmakers regionally (that means in the Pittsburgh area) and internationally (that means, you know, the whole globe) need AIR too.

AIR is the stuff we inhale, but it is also short for Artists Image Resource, the community co-op studio where I print all of my work. AIR is a not-for-profit, large, flexible use working artists studio with gallery spaces, screenprinting, etching, lithography, and letterpress studios and more.

Being not-for-profit means that my home away from home relies on donations and grant based funding to survive, hence the big October Benefit bash!

On SATURDAY OCTOBER 18 — OPEN HOUSE EVENT AIR’s annual fundraising event helps provide support for all of AIR’s programs and projects. This all day, kid-AND-adult friendly event includes hands on printing and art making activities as well as lots of bands, music, performances, food, refreshments and an exhibition and RAFFLE of work by artists and staff.

For a $10.00 entry fee at the door you can come and go all day, explore various printmaking processes and technologies, enjoy food and drink, experience performances, bands and music. For more specific information or call 412 321 8664. AIR is located on Pittsburgh’s historic North Side, at 518 Foreland Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212
